How to live a happier life

Don't we all want to be happy? On our way to reach this goal we may follow different advices. But do we ever try just to listen to ourselves? Do we give us the time of learning and trying to find our own way of finding happiness and balance. Like everything in life this a journey, a journey of try and error.

But how to find out what you truly need on your way to live a more happy life?

Do one thing at a time

We trained ourselves to be more efficient, to handle all the tasks in our lives. This gives us the illusion of control and we keep on going. We may even get positive feedback on this behavior. People tell us that we are very powerful and strong and able to handle everything. But does this behavior makes you happy or do you feel overwhelmed?

Our brain can be flooded with many informations - thoughts, sounds, sights. And the attention we are able to give is limited. Single-tasking can give us the opportunity to create more attentional space around our work in the moment. This let us think deeper, make more connections and we are able to find more meaning in the work. Finding meaning in what we do is actually one of the things that lead you to a more happier life.

Take time for yourself

Walk to work

This is a great one because you’re accomplishing many things at once. You’re getting exercise, you have time to think or enjoy music or your favorite podcast and you’re helping to save the environment.

Arrive early

Any appointment that you have, plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early. Then use this time to sit back and relax or read a book or magazine.

Make a Date with yourself

Write it in your calendar, like a meeting and plan what you wanna do during this time. We have the tendency to skip the time for ourself when we don't actually plan it and fill this time with even more work.

Positive thoughts

Are you a glass half-empty or half-full sort of person? Studies have demonstrated that both can impact your physical and mental health and that being a positive thinker is the better option.

Challenging situations are a part of life. When you’re faced with one, focus on the good things no matter how small or seemingly insignificant they seem. If you look for it, you can always find the proverbial silver lining in every cloud — even if it’s not immediately obvious.

Also writing down all the things you are grateful for can improve your optimism and sense of well being. You can create a notebook by yourself or buy one and write down at least three things you are grateful for every day. This is able to change your perspective to find happiness in every day.

Change your daily habbits

If you want to feel happier but you stuck to the same habbits it's most likely that nothing is going to change.

Physical activity

Find a physical activity that fits your personal interrests and needs. This may help bump up the production of your brain's feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins.

Eat healthy

Begin with your shopping list. Consider the health value of every item you add to your list and stick to it to avoid impulse buying when you're shopping.

Bring all your senses to the meal. When you're cooking, serving, and eating your food - be attentive to color, texture, aroma.

Sleep more

Find a ritual of going to bed and waking up - stick to it, even at the weekends. Switch of tv, computer and cellphone at least 1 hour before to got to bed, so your mind can calm down.

A more simple life can be a more happy life. Try to focus on the things that make you feel good and adapt your needs from time to time. Things that may worked out during your 30ies don't have to make you happy until the rest of your life. Give yourself the time to grow and find always new ways to life a more happy and mindful life. Be kind to yourself, you are already doing so good.
